Templates
A template decides how your notes look: logo, colours, font, paper size, wording and columns. You start with three.
The three starters
Every organisation starts with three templates, all A4, each printing your organisation's name, address, phone, email and tax number from Xero. The editor's preview shows sample data (Sample Trading Co), not yours.
- Classic. A traditional business document with ruled tables and boxed addresses.
- Compact. Small type and tight spacing, for long pick lists.
- Minimal. Plenty of white space and hairline rules.
They are ordinary templates. Rename them, change them, or make a different one the default. Click a name to open it. See Edit a template.
The default template
New documents use the default template unless you choose another when you create them. Documents created in bulk always use it. Click Make default next to any template to switch.
Archive a template
Click Archive next to a template you no longer use, and confirm. Archived templates can be looked at but not changed, and are not offered for new documents. Documents already made keep theirs. A default template cannot be archived: make another one the default first. To bring an archived template back, open the Archived tab and click Restore, or open it and click Restore beside the notice.
More templates
Click New template to add one, for example one for each customer or brand. Adding templates is part of the Standard and Business plans and the trial. On Starter, you edit the three starters.
Changing a template later
Changing a template does not change PDFs already made. A document that can still be edited picks up the change the next time you save it. Signed documents never change.
Each Xero organisation has its own templates.
